How Does This Calculator Work?

Following standard practices in Bangladesh, there are a total of 8 semesters, with different weight percentages assigned to the final result of each semester. The percentages set by default in this calculator are:

- 1st Semester: 5%

- 2nd Semester: 5%

- 3rd Semester: 10%

- 4th Semester: 10%

- 5th Semester: 20%

- 6th Semester: 20%

- 7th Semester: 20%

- 8th Semester: 10%

By multiplying the GPA of each semester by its specific percentage, summing up all the values, and dividing by the total used percentage, the final CGPA is obtained:

Final CGPA = (Sum of [Semester GPA * Weight %]) / (Total Used %)

Example:

Suppose someone has a 5th-semester GPA of 3.80 (20% weight) and a 6th-semester GPA of 3.65 (20% weight). The calculation will be:

= (3.80 * 20 + 3.65 * 20) / (20 + 20)

= (76 + 73) / 40

= 149 / 40

= 3.73

What If Someone Doesn't Provide All Semester Results?

Many students may not have finished all semesters yet, or they might just want to know the average result for specific semesters. The special advantage of this calculator in this case is that any blank semester fields are automatically excluded from the calculation. It treats the total percentage of only the semesters with provided GPAs as 100% and calculates the result proportionally.

For instance, if someone provides the GPA for only the 5th semester (20%) and the 6th semester (20%), the total of these two (40%) is considered 100% for the calculation—ensuring that no matter how many semester inputs are given, an accurate average result is always generated.
